Novice Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for what’s typically its largest fundraiser of the year – chili and stew supper.
“This year has been especially hard on all the Volunteer Fire Departments in the county due to COVID 19,” Novice VFD Chief Chris Shoemate said. “Fundraisers have been few and far between. We depend on fundraisers for our day to day operations, training, and responding to emergencies in the surrounding area. Not only do we respond to calls in Lamar County, we also respond to calls in Northwest Red River County due to our proximity to that area.”
The fire department will serve its traditional chili – mild, medium and hot – alongside “all the fixings to make it your own.” There will also be stew.
“We will offer socially distanced dine in as well as drive-thru service,” he said.
The fire department will be selling raffle tickets for the chance to win a Ruger 6.5 Creedmore at $1 apiece or $5 for six tickets. The drawing will be at about 8 p.m. There will also be a silent auction.
“Novice VFD is sincerely grateful to all our donors and appreciates all the support over the years,” Shoemate said.
Novice VFD’s chili and stew supper will be at Novice Volunteer Fire Department’s fire station, 13834 Farm Rd. 195, on Nov. 6 from noon to 8 p.m.
Prices for a plate are:
- $8 for ages 11 and up;
- $4 for ages 4 to 10; and
- free for those under 4 years of age.
