The North Lamar High School Literacy Criticism and Speech and Debate teams advanced to state after competing at the Region II UIL Academic Meet in Commerce on Saturday. Individually, Katie Conlin, Zach Huffman and Garrett Holzwarth each earned a gold medal for their regional wins will compete for state titles.
The Literary Criticism team, coached by Dr. Linda Winfrey, placed first. Individually, Conlin, placed first and advanced to state, Teagan Holley placed third and advanced to state, Autumn Flick placed fourth and Riley Cregg eighth place.
The UIL Academic State Meet will be May 3-4 at the University of Texas in Austin.
The Speech and Debate team, coached by Kristi Hodgkiss, placed second. Individually, Huffman placed first in Informative Speaking and advanced to State, Garrett Holzwarth placed first in Persuasive Speaking and advanced to state and Isabella LoCicero placed fourth in Persuasive Speaking. The UIL Speech State Meet is May 29-30 at the University of Texas in Austin.
