From the comfort of her home, nine-year-old Atlas Musick launched her crystal soap business, ‘Rock Creek Designs,’ at the beginning of October.
Taking in her love for geology, rocks and minerals, Atlas is making and selling crystal soaps, each with its own surprise inside.
“I love geology because each rock and mineral is so unique and different,” Atlas said. “When I look at rocks and minerals, I think of how amazing God is to make such beautiful things.”
Mary Golden-Musick, Atlas’ mother, said Atlas has an “ever-growing” collection of rocks and minerals. She said Atlas’ business stemmed from a rock model she had to create for an online geology class about a month ago.
“A few years ago we had made some crystal soap and she wanted to do that for her model,” Mary said. “As she was making one, she thought it would be fun to put a rock inside. So she did, and from there she had more ideas for types of minerals she wanted to emulate.”
While making the crystal soaps, Atlas asked Mary about selling the crystal soaps, and the likelihood of people buying them.
“She was blown away with so many orders on her first post, totaling over 100,” Mary said. “Since then she has over 100 additional orders.”
Atlas said, “I am so blessed that so many people have ordered from me.”
And she enjoys making the crystal soaps, “because they remind me of the real crystals and meeting the new people who buy them.”
Every crystal soap houses its own surprise, and “many times she puts tiger’s eye inside.”
“We homeschool and our homeschool name is Rock Creek Homeschool, so she decided to name her little business ‘Rock Creek Designs,’” Mary said.
Mary expressed how proud she is of Atlas’ business, “for finding a way to use her passion in a creative way to learn valuable life lessons, such as hard work, responsibility and business skills.”
“She loves science but also has an artistic spirit, and it is exciting to see the two come together,” Mary said. “We thank everyone who has supported her little business so far.”
Atlas said her favorite crystal soap is the Tiger’s Eye.
“It’s one of my favorite stones,” she said. “I wear a tiger’s eye neckless almost every day.”
