Mayor of the City of Bonham Roy Floyd on Jan. 15 submitted his letter of resignation.
“As many of you know, Bonham has been my home for over 42 years now and for 40 of those years, I have been involved in some part of the Municipal Government of Bonham. This is why it is with great sadness that I submit my letter of resignation as Mayor of the city of Bonham. I am profoundly grateful to the citizens of Bonham for entrusting me to hold the keys to the city and represent them in the city, our county, region, state, and in Washington D.C.,” he said.
He continued, “I am unable to fully express the depth of my gratitude and sincere thanks to you my fellow Councilors, the city staff, and the residents of this city for the support and trust that has been given to my family and I over the years. I want to wish a special thank you to those who have served alongside me in the past. It is my fervent prayer that Bonham is better because of our tireless efforts and dedicated leadership through the years. I would also like to thank my wife, Lynda, who has supported me through thick and thin.”
Floyd first served as mayor from 1980-1989. He became Mayor again in 2005 and in 2007 was the first year the Mayor of Bonham was elected by the people. He ran unopposed and remained Mayor.
He has served the city in some capacity (Mayor, Councilmember, Bonham Industrial Foundation, etc ) for nearly 40 years.
“In the book of Ecclesiastes, the Lord tells us ‘To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” I think it’s time. There is a quote that says “Age doesn’t give you good sense, it only makes you go slowly.’ It is now my time to step slowly away from public office. I want to say once again, thank you for allowing me to serve. I know you will be in good hands. God Bless you All, God Bless Bonham, Texas and God Bless the USA,” he concluded in his letter.
