Around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9th, a Lamar County deputy while on patrol south of Blossom observed a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup traveling north towards Blossom on FM 196 with a defective tail lamp.

“When the Deputy turned around to initiate a traffic stop, the Deputy noticed the truck began to flee at a high rate of speed,” said Sheriff Scott Cass.

The driver attempted to evade the Deputy for several miles driving at speeds reaching over 100 miles per hour before turning into his residence.

“The driver of the truck identified as 19-year-old Alexander Barnett Bene was taken into custody and charged with Evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, a felony,” said Cass.

Bene was transported to the Lamar County jail. Justice of the Peace Gene Hobbs arraigned Bene and set bond at $5000.00 dollars.
