Around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday evening, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department received two calls regarding a suspicious vehicle in the 12000 block of FM 905.

“We received two calls about a suspicious vehicle with a white male wearing purple latex gloves in a black passenger car,” said Lt. Johnathan Smith.

According to reports, one of the calls stated the suspect had approached a home and was pushing on the door unable to enter before returning to his vehicle.

A Lamar County Deputy responded to the call and initiated a traffic stop.

“As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a shotgun in the suspect’s vehicle and returned to his patrol car and called for backup,” said Smith.

Lamar County Sheriff’s Department, DPS, Texas Rangers, and Precinct 1 Constable Travis Rhodes all responded to the call.

“When more officers arrived on the scene, they approached the vehicle and found the suspect deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Smith.

At this time the victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.

The investigation is ongoing.
