Friends, family and even strangers will gather together this coming Sunday, April 28th at the Paris Elks Lodge to raise money for Honey Grove Cowboy Church Pastor Lonny Parson.

Parson, who has served his community through spiritual guidance as a pastor for churches such as Powderly Baptist Church, Victory Baptist Church, and now the Honey Grove Cowboy Church since 2016, collapsed during a service in February.

It was later revealed that Parson had suffered Type A Aortic Dissection and blood flow to his extremities and organs was completely cut off for nearly 14 hours.

Since February, Parson has undergone 20+ surgeries, suffered mold wound infections and will need washout surgery on an open abdomen wound every three to four days. His family said he will remain in the hospital for an unknown period of time.

After years of service to his community, the people of Lamar County are now giving back during his time of need.

“Please join us in supporting Lonny and his family who have dedicated their lives to serving their community and sharing the word of God through their faith,” said event coordinator Shellie Stephens.

A benefit has been set for Sunday, April 28th from noon till 5 p.m. at the Paris Elks Lodge located at  2110 36th St. NE in Paris.

Those who attend will be able to listen to local musicians and enjoy barbecue sandwiches, sides, and drinks.

Plates are $10 for adults and $5 for children 7-years-old and younger.

“One of the best things about this community is how we rally together when there’s a need,” she said. “And not just a monetary need, but just an outpouring of love whenever someone needs it.”
