Paris Church of God and Canaanland Church of God both have canceled services due to coronavirus scares.
Paris Church of God Pastor Doug Holt said the church had three confirmed cases. Luckily, Holt said, none of the three confirmed cases were in service, but watching online.
“Two of those were board members,” he said, “who attended a board meeting two to three days prior to being tested positive. So, as a precautionary measure, we canceled services for 2 weeks for the safety of our congregation.”
Holt said Paris Church of God is set to reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and Sunday, Sept. 13.
Canaanland Church of God posted on social media announcing its postponement until Sunday, Sept. 6.
Canaanland Church of God said there will be no online services until after Sept. 6.
“This has been a very difficult decision, but one we believe is best for your safety,” the church posted. “Please continue to pray for your church family.”
As of Aug. 30, the Paris-Lamar County Health District reported 907 total coronavirus cases. However, of those cases, 660 have recovered. Additionally, there have been 36 positive antibody tests and 24 coronavirus-related deaths.
There are currently 187 active cases in Lamar County.
