Last week volunteers with ‘Operation Toy’ bought over 500 toys for local children who would otherwise go without this Christmas and now the team will be able to buy another 300+ toys after local business, Big Boy Memorabilia donates over $2,000.

“Our team decided that we wanted to give back to the community this Christmas and when we heard about Operation Toy and their mission, we knew we wanted to donated to them,” said co-owner Chris Parris.

“We’re proud to have exceeded the goal we set for ourselves and even more proud to know that hundreds of kids in Lamar County will receive Christmas presents this year through Operation Toy,” added co-owner Cade Petty.

Operation Toy is 100% volunteer-operated by Texas State Guard members and local law enforcement officers who spend hundreds of hours each year collecting and distributing toys.

“This is our first year doing Operation Toy in Lamar County,” said Judge Bill Harris. “It’s something the Texas State Guard does as they recognize the importance of children having toys for Christmas and that’s something we all wanted to be a part of.”

With the most recent donation from Big Boy Memorabilia, Operation Toy has been able to purchase over 1,000 toys.

“We’ve already given over 500 toys to CASA for Kids and Blossom House of Hope but now we will be able to purchase more toys and expand our reach in Lamar County,” said Harris.

Harris said they’re now coordinating with local schools and churches to distribute the rest of the presents to needy children.

“We are thankful to everyone who has donated toys or money which went to buying these gifts,” added Harris. “100% of everything donated and bought goes to children in Lamar County.”

Each year, Paris CASA for Kids provides services to over 250 Lamar County children in foster care. The SAFE-T shelter helps 12-15 children each month who are homeless or the victims of domestic violence. Area churches quietly minister to children from families who struggle just to pay the bills. For many of these kids, the simple joy of getting toys for Christmas is often out of the question.

The toys will be delivered by December 21st.
