As the summer draws to a close and the start of school approaches, high school sports in the area are set to restart amidst the spread of COVID-19. Volleyball in the Red River Valley area is set to begin with a matchup between two local heavyweights as the Paris Lady Wildcats host the Prairiland Lady Patriots.
This match features two teams who were champions of their respective districts one year ago, with Prairiland earning the District 12-3A, Region II title, and Paris collecting the crown in District 15-4A, Region II.
Both teams advanced past the first round last year. Paris made it to the area round for the first time since 2010, where it lost in a close 5-set match to Van. Prairiland coasted through the first three rounds of postseason play last year, going 9-0 in sets against Atlanta, White Oak, and New Boston. With that, the Lady Pats reached the regional semifinals for the first time since 2004 but were ousted in four sets by Van Alstyne, who reached the Class 3A State Championship game.
Paris hosted Prairiland during the 2019 regular season, and the Lady Patriots fought from behind to take the match in four sets. This year, the Lady Patriot and the Lady ’Cat varsity teams will play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Paris High School gymnasium following the JV teams’ match at 3 p.m.
