A joint announcement from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath this week stated that all Texas schools would re-open to in-person classes this fall when the new school year begins.
“It will be safe for Texas public school students, teachers, and staff to return to school campuses for in-person instruction this fall,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath in a statement released Thursday. “But there will also be flexibility for families with health concerns so that their children can be educated remotely if the parent so chooses.”
Furthermore, it is believed that students will not be required to wear face masks, nor will they be tested. However, mandates are yet to be implemented regarding what restrictions or requirements may be set in place; officials state that it will come down to a local level for every school district.
The details on how districts should proceed with health protocols are expected to be released tomorrow.
