Sign-ups have begun for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas in Paris.
Troop Leader Janna Phan said scouts experience a slew of different activities from dancing, hiking, camping and learning about fire and fire safety to archery, canoeing, coding, programming and more.
“The Girl Scout program is a great place for girls to support each other while learning new things,” she said. “It also teaches them to be strong and confident in what they do, but also empathetic. It gives the girls chances to try things they might never get to try in other organizations.”
Phan said girls learn how to be considerate, caring, helpful and friendly – overall, leadership skills. “Best of all, how to make the world a better place.
“What I enjoy about Girl Scouts is watching the girls become young ladies and learn to be their own person,” she said. “Also, I love how we are all so different, but we learn to understand one another. I love it because girls can be girls.”
Sign-ups will be at Love Civic Center’s Pavilion, 2025 S. Collegiate Dr. on Sept. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Phan said there will also be a sign-up event in Greenville on Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at Aunt Char’s Park in Greenville.
She said there will be games, a brief history lesson about Girl Scouts and sign-ups as well.
“We will social distance the best we can, have masks, etc.,” she said. “We will also have supplies to keep us safe and a board to help with it. Each ‘station’ we will try to keep 10 or less.”
For anyone unable to attend a scouting event, but wishes to sign up their K-12 grade student can do so by visiting Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas’s website here.
There is a $25 annual membership fee.
