Former North Lamar High School graduate Austin Allison recently graduated his basic training with the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego, California on June 21.

Marine Allison is the son of Jesse and Kaletta Allison and is the oldest of five sons.

“I’m so proud of Austin,” said his mom Kaletta.

Austin graduated from the local high school in 2018, and according to his mother, it was only in the last few years that he had thought about joining the service.

“He loved football,” she said, “but he also really wanted to serve his country and felt a calling to enlist.”

Allison enlisted in April of this year, and after his graduation, he traveled back home for ten days to spend some time with family before heading back to San Diego for further training.

Making his commitment to become a Marine, Allison, like many other new recruits had to earn his title of a U.S. Marine after partaking in extensive basic training.

Through his 13-weeks of basic training in San Diego CA, Allison completed the required physical and mental demands of every mission.

He also had academic testing, PFT and CFT, Martial Arts, swimming techniques and rifle qualifications, where he received expert rifleman as well as what is known as the Crucible which is a 54-hour training.

Austin will receive his first assignment as a Marine after he completes his next training phase.
