At the close of Friday’s early voting, ending early voting, more than 14,600 Lamar County registered voters cast their ballots early for the Nov. 3’s general election.
As Lamar County houses more than 30,000 registered voters, the elections office saw nearly half walk through the county annex’s front doors to have their voices heard.
“I’ve never seen lines out the front doors in my 14 years of being here,” Elections Administrator Tricia Johnson said at the end of early voting’s first day.
Amanda McCloure, with the elections administration, suspected a large turnout for early voting prior to its start.
“This presidential election has been a touchy subject for a lot of people,” McCloure said just days before the start of early voting in Lamar County. “People that have never voted or been registered to vote for several years, want to this year and want their voices to be heard.”
