If you want to avoid riding home in a squad car this New Year’s Eve or even worse…causing a wreck, call Dylan’s Drivers instead.

Dylan’s Drivers has been giving FREE safe and confidential rides in Lamar County on Friday and Saturday nights for the past seven years.

“We started DD on New Year’s in 2017 and our team of volunteers will give anywhere from 40-50 rides on that night,” said executive director Steve Wilson.

Dylan’s Drivers was founded by Ronnie and Vicki Ballard after the tragic loss of their son in 2011. Their mission is designed to help avoid alcohol and drug-related tragedies and facilitate a safer community.

“We will have multiple vehicles and volunteers working from 10 p.m. till 2:30 a.m. giving rides to those who have been drinking,” added Wilson.

However, with the expected increase in calls for safe rides over the New Year’s holiday weekend, Dylan’s Drivers is looking for volunteers.

“We are needing five volunteers each night this Friday and Saturday and another four or five for New Year’s night.”

First-time volunteers will need to go through a quick 15-20 minute training and would need to arrive on the night they volunteered around 9:30 p.m.

“Our office is located at 1455 20th NE (next to Ballard Insurance),” said Wilson. “We also provide food which is graciously donated by local businesses.”

Those wishing to volunteer can call Steve Wilson at 903-715-2559.
