“Ms. West failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and pulled into traffic,” said DPS Staff Sergeant Mark Tackett.

“A northbound motorcycle struck the side of the Tahoe and both riders were ejected.”

DPS is investigating a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Monday night in Powderly that left one dead and several injured.

According to officials, a motorcycle is believed to have been t-boned by a Tahoe SUV. The accident occurred at the intersection of FM 2648 and U.S. 271, where one official said it was believe the Tahoe was following an ambulance to Paris Regional Medical Center who was transporting a family member for medical attention.

Officials are still investigating the accident, but speculate that the Tahoe, traveling westbound, failed to yield right of way which resulted in the vehicle colliding with the motor-cycle traveling northbound on U.S. 271, which was carrying two passengers.

At least one person involved in the accident sustained fatal injuries, according to the report. However, no names have been released at this stage alongside any further details.

“There were life-threatening injuries sustained for people involved in the accident. They were immediately transported to the local hospital for medical attention,” Powderly Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roger Bussell said.

“A trooper attended a fatal accident on U.S. 271 in the early morning of Tuesday,” was confirmed by Texas DPS Public Information Officer Sgt. Mark Tackett.

No more information is available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
