After Tuesday night’s city council meeting for Clarksville, the city approved the adoption of COVID-19 “Hazard pay” for the Police and Fire Department.
“I am really pleased that our city officials decided to approve the hazard pay for our frontline departments,” said Clarksville Police Chief Mark Gable.
The move came just a day after the Red River County Commissioners court approval for the same pay, which falls under the CARES ACT grant funds.
Gable said that it would fall under the same grant for both the city departments, as the city of Clarksville also has access to a portion of the CARES ACT.
“Each officer will receive $500 a month in hazard pay, and the paid firefighters will receive the same amount, until Dec 31,” said Gable.
Several other department heads within Red River County that attended the commissioner’s court on Aug 10 are expected to follow suit and present a similar presentation to their council meetings soon.
