While kids are at home and our elderly friends and family are staying safe by staying away from the public, Heritage House Rehab and Nursing facility in Paris came up with a unique, fun way for both generations to still feel connected with the world.
Heritage House posted to their Facebook page on Mar. 14, asking local kids to write letters or draw pictures for residents while they are under restrictive visitation guidelines.
“Due to COVID-19, there is no longer any visitation for the residents by their family. While school is out, maybe your kids could write a letter or a card or color a few pictures for the residents. A happy piece of mail like this would be fantastic during this time,” read the post.
Although family members can still connect with their loved ones via phone calls, letters, or Facetime, the ability to visit in person is not an option right now.
Wanting to bless some of the residents at Heritage House, local sisters 8-year old Kylyn and 3-year old Kaleigh Kinslow spent the day on Tuesday coloring and drawing.
“Kylyn and Kasleigh worked so hard to bless some little people’s hearts at the Heritage House,” said grandmother Carolyn Drake. “Proud grandparent moment.”
Drake said they are now ready to send the first batch of pictures to residents and will be doing more today
“My son-in-law is also a nurse at the hospital and the girls are doing some drawings for his patients as well.”
While the time frame of isolation for the elderly is still unknown, for those who can, a simple kind gesture to help brighten the day for residents in aged care can go a long way.
