Britney’s Steppin Out Dance Studio continues to dance their way through the competition, with most recently taking the sweep for the top awards at the regional Edge competition in Texarkana.
“We are still on cloud nine after the competition,” Owner Britney Drake said. “It’s not very often that you get a sweep like this.”
Drake took 28 dancers who made up the five teams from beginner to advanced at the regional dance competition, which saw 285 dance numbers performed.
“Our girls killed it and to say I am proud is an understatement,” she said, “The passion, the technique, the love, and the absolute bravery I witnessed was incredible. Our dancers left their hearts on the stage and left the results up to God, and boy did HIS light shine.”
It was a Motown theme competition with Drake adding that the dancers went all out with their costumes. They had Aretha Franklin, The Jackson Five, Diana Ross, and The Supremes.
“We were happy when our ruby team won with their ‘I Want Candy’ routine, then came the rest of the wins,” she said excitedly. “To get a clean sweep was a first for our studio, and to say I am proud of my dancers is an understatement.”
The Diamond Teams’ lyrical “Stand By Me” won over 49 other dances in the competitive Edge Award. Drake said this one dance, in particular, her team couldn’t have done a better job.
“They embraced the story, the lyrics and to have them dance for two studio moms who survived Breast Cancer made the win so special to everyone,” She said.
Wins like these don’t come all too often for dancers and their studios. So as a special treat Drake along with her instructors and dance, parents decided to take change one training day to a celebration day.
“They deserve to relish in the win,” Drake said.
Now they are awaiting the judge’s critiques to come in as they continue to prepare for their March competition in Dallas.
“Our success at Edge shows that we are more than just dancers working on technique, we care about the development of the people they will become both on and off the dance floor. I am truly blessed with the dancers I have the honor to train and win with,” Drake said.
