The Gifted and Talented students at Bailey Intermediate were recently given the assignment to create a Monopoly game personalized with their own touch.  One group of girls, Jara Kattes, Roselyn Spencer, Avery Spencer, Savannah Pickering, and Lizzie Fischer, came up with Baileyopoly.  The board game was designed to help next year’s fourth graders get to know the school in a fun way.

Bailey teacher names or places replaced the property spaces on the original Monopoly game.  Each space has been illustrated with something that will tell the incoming students a little about the teacher or place.  Markers were made into school-related symbols such as an NL panther, backpack, apple, paint pallet, pencil, panther paw, and the like.  Instead of landing on the ‘Go to Jail’ block, one could land on ‘Go to Detention’ and instead of the ‘Free Parking’ space one could go to ‘JUMP’, Bailey’s enrichment model that focuses on student strengths and interests by participating in interest-based, student-driven learning.

The incoming fourth graders who play Baileyopoly will have an insight to their new campus making the transition much smoother fulfilling the purpose of the students’ game.

Putting the finishing touches on their Baileyopoly board game are Bailey GT students Lizzie Fischer, Savannah Pickering, Jara Kattes, Roselyn Spencer, and Avery Spencer.

A close-up of the Baileyopoly board game created by Bailey GT students reveals teacher names as property spaces, going to detention instead of jail, lockers and backpacks in place of houses or hotels, and markers that pertain to Bailey or North Lamar ISD.  The five creators each included a self-drawn picture of themselves in the center of the game.
