Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday hair salons, barbershops, nail/tanning salons can open this Friday, May 8 as long as they practice social distancing guidelines.

“This allows these types of businesses to open up, but it doesn’t require them to do so,” Abbott said. “Every owner of every salon should use their own best judgement.”

Each stylist can only have one customer at a time, appointment only system is recommended, and waiting customers should stay outside unless they can stay six feet apart. Abbott also recommended masks for both stylists and customers.

Additionally, gyms will be allowed to open on May 18 at 25 percent capacity. All equipment must be disinfected after each use and customers must use gloves and maintain six-feet social distancing. Showers and locker rooms are still off-limits.
