Lieutenant Dan, an Ohio pup from the Cincinnati suburb of New Richmond, has been named this year’s Cadbury Easter Bunny.
The two-legged dog who was affectionately named after Gary Sinise’s character from Forrest Gump has taken the nation’s heart after his sweet photo was entered in the contest.
“Lieutenant Dan was born different, but hasn’t let that slow him down!” his bio read on the contest site when it launched a few weeks ago. “He has a joy for life that is infectious and inspiring!”
Cadbury officially announced the winner on their Facebook page Tuesday morning, and now Lieutenant Dan’s photo has been sweeping social media for a second time.
He was one of 10 finalists in the competition, which also saw other competitors, including cats, a hamster, a duck, a llama, a miniature horse, and even a pig!
Lieutenant Dan won $5,000 and will star in his own Cadbury commercial.
